an optic nerve disease that could lead to blindness if left untreated. Risk factors include positive family history, age over 40, increased eye pressure, long term use of steroids, diabetes, thin corneas, large optic nerves, and history of eye injury. During your eye exam, Dr Tinari performs a thorough evaluation of the health of your optic nerve and uses OCT technology to evaluate ganglion cell thickness and corneal thickness. Your eye pressure and your eye’s drainage angle are also assessed in order to determine if you have or are at risk for glaucoma. Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness for people over 60 and has no symptoms in its early stages. The most important way to prevent vision loss from this eye disease is yearly comprehensive eye exams.
